Chiclana de la Frontera: Where to stay

Chiclana de la Frontera covers over 200 square kilometers and is divided in to many residential areas. Most of the tourism in Chiclana takes place in Novo Sancti Petri, which is mostly visited by German and Spanish tourists and is famous for it’s golf resorts and prestigious hotels.

While the hotels are okay, many tourists prefer the privacy of a holiday villa or an apartment, which is usually rented directly from the property owner. There are many privately rented apartments close to the beach of La Barrosa but many can be quite a walk from the beach and many can feel like miles away from anywhere. If you want an apartment near the beach, make sure you check the location on a map before choosing which one is right for you.

chiclana holiday villaThere are thousands of privately rented holiday villas in the Chiclana de la Frontera region and many of them are very attractive, have private pools, high walls and pretty out door lounging areas so once you get in through the gate it’s easy to relax.

With the region of Chiclana being so large, some holiday rental villas can make you feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere. You can end up with a holiday which is even up to 45 minutes walk to the nearest bar, restaurant or convenience store,  which is fine if like that sort of thing and you have a hire car or other transportation.

Even a taxi to the beach, which is where the nightlife is, can cost over €25 from the Marquesado, Pago del Humo or Pinar de los Franceses areas. It really does depend on what kind of holiday your looking for but if it’s the nightlife your after and you stay in these areas, just one night out is gonna cost you €50. Some simple maths show that if you do this on 6 nights of your two weeks holiday, your holiday will cost you over €300 more, which added to your rental costs could have got you that holiday villa or apartment within 5 minutes walk from the beach.

Even the car hire in the holiday season is so expensive that if the car is just for getting you down to the beach, the same applies and the money could go towards that slightly more expensive holiday rental nearer the beach.

Now, I’m not trying to put people off the holiday villas further out in the campo and staying in the countryside does have it’s benefits. The beach areas can be very noisy in the summer with Spanish holiday makers partying out until 6 and even 8 o’clock in the mornings so if your too close, you will hear the noise. In a villa further away you will still hear the summer fiestas but they usually start dying down around 3 o’clock and are in no way as loud as the beach area.

Generally, the further you get from the beach, the more garden you will get so if you have children with you, you can relax while watching them enjoy the extra space to burn off some energy.

You can enjoy beautiful countryside walks, meet the locals and practice a little Spanish as most of them do not speak any English, have yourself some barbecues and just relax more more in a countryside rental. You hardly hear the cars, you can get your own private pool… What more do you need?

Here’s a list of some of the areas you might find a private holiday rental villa or apartment. Make sure you do your research on the location and specifics of the place you are looking and make sure it meets your needs.
