El Marquesado, Chiclana de la Frontera

El Marquesado is a semi rural area of Chiclana de la Frontera heading out towards Jerez. It has many attractive holiday rental villas with high walls, beautiful private gardens and nice private pools. Don’t be put off by the roads leading to most of the houses where, just like most places in the province, they are narrow lanes which are not too flat and have the odd pot hole or two.

There are a few bars, a chemist and a mini market along the road through the village and one of the bars hold a car boot sale every Sunday so grab your self a bargain if you can pull yourselves away from the pool.

Towards the end of the road leading through El Marquesado, there are a few restaurants and this is similar going the other way, towards the city centre. El MarquesadoUntil you get to the end of the road where you have more choice including a McDonald’s, a Burger King and a Telepizza. Either way you can relax and enjoy a few finos or sweet sherries with the locals and sample the local food or pick up something your more familiar with.

I wouldn’t recommend staying in El Marquesado area if you are planning visits to the beach everyday of your holiday as the nearest beach (La Barrosa) is around 9 miles away. Instead, I would check out some other places to stay. I would recommend it if you like a peaceful relaxing holiday by the pool.

Car hire would be recommended if you’re hoping to get around a bit and depending on where you are in the village, the nearest supermarket can be over 3 miles away. Buses to Chiclana town centre are around every couple of hours and there’s a bus which runs down the main village road and goes to Jerez.

El Marquesado has large open landscapes with some lovely countryside views and the town of Chiclana de la Frontera is on your doorstep, should you need it.
