Neve Tzedek, a paradise inside Tel Aviv

When we talk about Tel Aviv, without doubt we have all heard about its thriving life, its restaurants and the immense amount of activities that take place at the same time; in a few words “vigor and movement”. I like to share that within the same city there is a haven of tranquillity, peace and visual delight for those who love architecture and art in general.

All this presentation serves to introduce you about my experience in a very special neighbourhood of Tel Aviv, in fact, my favorite. My special place is called Neve Tzedek and it was the first Jewish quarter built outside the old city of Jaffa. This neighbourhood was built in the late 19th century as an appendix of Jaffa and its name means “Oasis of Justice” which is totally true because it is a true oasis of art, culture and architecture in the very modern Tel Aviv.

Starting point

Where to start?, from The heart, the Dance and Theater center Suzanne Dallal with its beautiful architecture that draws attention from its   walls to the floor of the square where it is located. From this “heart”, narrow streets intersect like arteries with architecture from the beginning of the 20th century, of one or two floors and with different states of preservation, but keeping those small courtyards with vines, flowers, statues and colors.

It is a pleasure to walk through its streets rejoicing surrounded by beautiful views on every corner. A mixture of architecture, colors and artisan boutiques that show us their unique works with special designs.

You feel immersed in this haven surrounded by tall buildings and the proximity of the sea and its beautiful beaches.

Art, Architecture and Design

Some of these art boutiques come to my mind. Examples include Art Maroc and Chomer Tov gallery of ceramics. It is one thing to write about this and it is another thing to see it with our own eyes.

We could not finish an article about Neve Tzedek without mentioning two topics: food and nearby points of interest.

The extra

One of the attractions of Israel in general if you do not know it is the food, and I am not talking about the gargantuan portions, but the variety and quality of the options. But its main characteristic is precisely due to the diversity of its population. I would say that the word that most correctly sums up the Israeli cuisine is “fusion”. And as the great Israeli Chef Yotam Ottolenghi shows. In Neve Tzedek we can rejoice with small restaurants and plenty delicious options.

And if I said that the other topic is the nearby points of interest, steps from Neve Tzedek we can go to the beautifully preserved “Hatachana Rakevet” (The Old Railway Station) that was restored and turned into a center of art, culture and activities commercials that are worth visiting.

The other inescapable point of interest is the Rothschild Boulevard with its Bauhaus style and places like the Independence Hall, the house of the Russian embassy or the imposing Habima theater.

Another very important attraction of Tel Aviv are its beaches, but that will be for another article here in Cadiza. What is clear is that this city is a treasure chest that must be opened very slowly to enjoy it fully.
