Azul Sensatori, Mexico

Choosing a destination for your honeymoon can be a daunting task after much deliberation we chose Mexico, looking a the hotels we found a little easier as this hotel ticked all the boxes.

We wanted an adults only hotel or a hotel that had a adults only section (to ease the guilt of not taking our children), choice of a’la carte restaurants, all inclusive and room with a jacuzzi. Azul sensatori ticked all of these.

We booked though Tui a swim up room (these rooms are adult only with Tui).

We arrived at the hotel after a very long day travelling, but too excited to feel tired, we were welcomed to a glass of fizz and leaded into a side room where there were a range of drinks and snacks to enjoy whilst we filled in some paperwork and handed our keys, our cases were loaded onto a trolley and we were taken to our room.

Our room was perfect, just as discribed, huge super king bed, jacuzzi in the window, fridge full with cold cans of various beverages and the swim up pool outside our door. After a super quick change we were straight in and had a swim round to the adults only swim up bar. #Heaven.

On our balcony as a soft comfy seating area and 2 sun loungers, no need to wake up early and reserve beds, we had our own and this was worth the extra cost.

Restaurants: We enjoyed a large choice throughout the day and night, Italian, Mediterranean, Mexican, tapas and a very large buffet restaurant. Also they have a onsite adults only tasting restaurant called “Le Chique” (1 visit per stay) , you enjoy a 14 course meal that can be served with matching wines at a cost. Also they offer special meals on the beach at an additional charge, we had a lobster and steak night and really enjoyed it.

Staff: Where do I start, these guys can’t do enough for you, so polite and friendly, everyone of them was always smiling and making sure you were having an amazing time. One of the waitresses Bettyna told us that if you mention them in reviews they have a points system and the winners would get an extra day off paid, so rather than being tip driven they are rewarded this way.

Pools: There are 5 Pools in total, 3 of them included swim up bars. All Pools were spread out and none seemed too busy and there were always beds availble. We stuck to the adults only pool all the time we were there.

Beach: This part of Mexico (Riviera Maya) has lovely long beaches fantastic for long strolls, unfortunately what lets it down is the amount of seaweed washes up, depending on the weather it can be little but it can also be very very excessive, a team of lads work around the clock clearing it away every single day, these guys deserve a medal.

Entertainment: Everynight the hotel puts on shows that vary from singerand poker nights to traditional Mayan dancers and reggae parties on the beach (that was our favourite by far), most nights we relaxed in the mojito lounge working our way through an excessive mojito menu.

Out and about: This hotel is remote and one of the other reasons we chose it, but there was a taxi rank just outside the hotel and the hotel staff would arrange one for you no problem.

Room Service: The room service menu is located on one of the TV channels and we sampled a few times during out stay. My husband wanted a “four cheese pizza” but ended up with 4 cheese pizzas, he stuck to the menu from then on. You can not order alcohol via room service but anything else is on the menu.

Overall: This hotel ticked all our boxes from start to finish and we would return in a flash. They offered much much more than we expected.

Top Tips: Take pesos rather than dollars for tips and any added extras you may want while there. Shop around for excursions, we used a company called “Cancun Adventures”. Upgrade to a swim up room if you can (if you are travelling with children you can’t book a swimup room through Tui only through Karisma).
