Cancun, Mexico

We visited Mexico in June/July 2017

Choosing where to go on our honeymoon was the hardest choice, child free and a open map, where do you choose? after lots of research we chose Mexico.

We flew from London Gatwick to Cancun booking a package holiday through Tui, the flight was on one of Tui’s new Dreamliners and we paid the extra to travel premiere (well worth the extra pounds).

Our honeymoon was off to a perfect start we had just relaxed in the airport lounge, free drinks and free food (all included in the flight upgrade). We boarded first and received a glass of fizz whilst we waited for the plane to fill up. I’m not the best flyer anymore but I have to say the Dreamliner was very smooth and a lot quieter than all the other planes I have flown on so this helped a lot (the fizz could of been a contributing factor also). All the food was delicious and fresh and the drinks were good also.

Reading all the reviews on Cancun airport I was a little nervous on getting through and onto the coach, we filled out our customs forms on the plane. After you collect your cases you walk through towards customers with your form and passport ready, you press and button and if the light shows green your good to go if red then you will get spot checked, this system doesn’t seem to have a pattern. Now to get through the herds of timeshares and taxis that I read so much about, turns out this was really simple and no one approached us, we were sat on our coach with no fuss at all.

Our transfer to our hotel took around 30mins no delays no problems.

The day after arriving we attended our welcome meeting to see what tours they had to offer, to be honest we left half the way through as we had seen cheaper on line.

We booked through a big local company called cancun adventures who offer packages and worked out much better value for money, we chose to visit Xichen one day and Xel-Ha/Tulum another day, these cost us around $380 (roughly £290) for 2 adults.

Both trips we enjoyed but did find the half day in Xel-Ha a bit too rushed, we would book to do a full day if we went again. Too much to do and enjoy for just half a day. The company really looked after us and the tour guides were brilliant along with the drivers who had cool boxes with free drinks ready for you on your return.

On a whole we were both so impressed by everything we experienced while in Mexico, all the locals we came in contact with were so friendly and have good sense of humors, we would book again without a doubt.
