Hotel Kette, Venice, Italy

Venice is one of the top tourist attractions in the world. With its picturesque canals, stunning architecture and many wonderful museums, there is little doubt that a trip to Venice is on many people’s wish-lists.

But where is the best place to stay for a weekend away in Venice? We went to Booking.com and decided to book a couple of nights at Hotel Kette. This four-star hotel looked to be located in the heart of Venice and seemed to be perfectly placed for exploring this enchanting city.

With some typically ornate furnishings and good reviews from other customers, we were hoping that Hotel Kette would give us a real holiday to remember. So here’s a quick review of the Hotel Kette so that you can see whether it would be well-suited for your next holiday in Venice.

Rooms:

As soon as you enter your room in the Hotel Kette, you will realise that this place is fairly unlike most other hotels. This is because the hotel is set in a 16th century building that is packed with atmosphere. Whilst the compact nature of Venice means that many of the buildings are fairly compact, we found that our rooms at Hotel Kette were nicely spacious and we loved looking out of the large windows at the surrounding city.

Venice is well known for its ornate interior design, and this was perfectly reflected through the room’s furnishings that included traditional wallpaper and some lovely fabrics in the upholstery. But it wasn’t just about the look of the room that impressed as there was also a nice LCD television to pass the time on an evening, and we were glad to find that there was a minibar and air conditioning which was very handy as Venice can be stuffy in the summer months.

We were surprised to find that one reviewer had criticised the mattresses at Hotel Kette, as we enjoyed some great nights’ sleep here. Although that could have been a result of many hours’ spent wandering around this picturesque city.

Food & Drink:

In order to get you fully fuelled for a day’s sightseeing, the staff at Hotel Kette put on a nice breakfast each morning. This is a standard breakfast buffet deal, but there were plenty of options with all of the ham, cheese and fruit salad you could dream of.

However, it should be noted that there is no restaurant inside Hotel Kette. Not that this was any kind of problem as the hotel is right in the centre of Venice. This means that you are always just a short walk away from all manner of lovely cafes, bars and restaurants.

Hotel Kette also doesn’t have any kind of bar. But there was a fairly well stocked minibar, and we even went one step further by ordering up a bottle of bubbly to the room on our first night there. This means that we could look out over the canals and even hear the songs from the passing gondolas under our window.

Staff:

One of the best parts of our stay at Hotel Kette was the fact that the staff seemed to bend over backwards to help us out. They spoke excellent English and helped us into our room with the bare minimum of fuss. The rooms were all nice and clean and it was good to find that they also have a laundry and dry cleaning service too.

But it was the fact that they even helped us with the shuttle service to the airport that made everything all the better. We had a fairly late flight back home, so we could use the free luggage storage after we checked out and then just jumped on board the shuttle service to make our way back home relatively easily. If only all holiday experiences could be so straightforward.

Entertainment:

As the Hotel Kette is located in the heart of Venice, it means that it simply doesn’t have the space for too many entertainments such as live music and so on. However, we were pleased to find that the staff at Hotel Kette are on hand to help you discover the best bits of the city.

They were happy to help us book a fun walking tour that explained all about Venetian culture, and there were also options for getting tickets for live music such as the iconic Vivaldi Four Seasons classical concert. But to be honest, after a solid day of walking about Venice, we were pretty exhausted when we got back to the hotel. So it was enough just to relax with a nice glass of wine and then watch the world go by from our lovely window view. Oh and just so you know Hotel Kette comes with a free Wi-Fi service so that you can easily stay in touch with everyone back home.

Attractions:

Hotel Kette is in a great location and you are just 500 yards away from the iconic Piazza San Marco. Whilst this area often gets overrun with tourists, if you head there early enough you might be able to take some lovely photos and see famous sites like the Bridge of Sighs.

We would also recommend that you take the time to check out the famous La Fenice opera house that is located just around the corner from Hotel Kette. Whilst a gondala trip around Venice revealed itself to be massively expensive, we had plenty of fun just getting lost in the labyrinth-like backstreets of the city.

There’s no shortage of legendary art museums like the Peggy Guggenheim Museum to enjoy if you get struck with a rainy day. But our favourite memories of Venice will be just relaxing with a typically strong Italian coffee on a morning and watching the action on the water. So whilst Venice is often packed with tourists, you will always find somewhere to relax to enjoy the spectacle of this bewitching city.
