Dionysos Hotel, Rhodes

Many people in the UK love to fly to Greece in the summer months in order to give themselves a good chance of getting to see some sunshine. We thought that we would take a trip to the Greek island of Rhodes this summer and couldn’t wait to see what kinds of hotels were available.

In order to help us in our search, we looked at four-star hotels on the Booking.com website and the Dionysos Hotel seemed to meet all of our needs. With some spectacular looking poolside attractions, great restaurants and close proximity to the beach, we booked a nice week’s holiday here and here’s what we discovered at the Dionysos Hotel.

Rooms:

Obviously we spent a lot of time lounging by the pool as well as having fun on the beach, but it was nice to have some decent rooms to come back to for a good night’s sleep after a solid day in the sunshine. Thankfully, all of the rooms at the Dionysos Hotel seemed to be fully air conditioned which was especially handy as some of the summer days in Rhodes could get oppressively hot.

We found that the beds were nice and comfortable and so we could enjoy dozing in on a morning, and the rooms themselves were perfectly spacious so that we could unpack all of our belongings and not end up tripping over our suitcases. We were also very lucky as our room also had an amazing balcony with a lovely view of the Mediterranean sea that served as an excellent place to spend an evening with a relaxing glass of wine.

What made the rooms at the Dionysos Hotel especially charming was the fact that they included a nice bathtub which was perfect for soaking in after all of those beachside activities. Plus we also liked the fact that the rooms came equipped with a hairdryer so that we didn’t have to bring one from home, and you could take full advantage of the free Wi-Fi no matter where you were in the hotel – perfect for showing off all of the holiday photos to folks back home.

Food & drink:

Half of the fun of going abroad is getting the chance to enjoy some lovely foreign food. Greece is well known for its excellent cuisine and so we couldn’t wait to see what was on offer. Thankfully, the Dionysos Hotel has a fantastic restaurant in the main hotel area and also by the poolside. This meant that we truly never went hungry as there was always plenty of lovely Greek and Mediterranean dining options which thankfully included lots of nice salads that were perfect for enjoying in the sun.

If anything, there was often too much choice at the Dionysos Hotel. This is because there were lots of other nice little food outlets that included a souvlaki outlet, as well as nice creperie and even a pastry shop that allowed us plenty of chance to indulge in some mouthwatering Greek sweet delicacies like baklava.

Just to get you started for the day, there was a fantastic breakfast buffet. This has plenty of options ranging from the somewhat heavy-going American-style breakfast to lighter continental options, and it was good to see that there was plenty of choice for vegetarians too. And what better way to round off a nice day on the beach than by heading to the hotel bar and enjoying some of the wonderful ouzo that the country is so famous for.

Staff:

It’s important to know that the Dionysos isn’t just some faceless hotel, but that it is a family-run business that has been going for nearly 50 years. This means that there is a real heritage of customer service here, and we were delighted to find that all of the staff that we encountered were very friendly and helpful.

From checking in at reception to speaking to the cleaners and waiters, all of the services that we received helped us really enjoy our stay here. Whilst some of the other hotels in Rhodes have a reputation for being more than a little noisy, we found that the Dionysos Hotel was relaxed and quiet which meant that we could enjoy a nice break from home and even catch up on some sleep.

Entertainment:

Whether you are staying at the Dionysos Hotel with kids or just with your partner, you will find it hard to get bored here. Although most of us would be happy with just relaxing on the complementary sun loungers by the pool, it’s nice to find that there were plenty more entertainments on offer.

For adults, there was everything from bingo and karaoke to aerobics, and we were impressed with how there was even some great live music some evenings. Kids are very well catered for at the Dionysos Hotel as there are mini golf, snorkelling, tennis, cycling and a full children’s playground. And with a wellness centre that even included a sauna, we have to say that we were very well taken care of.

Out & About:

If you’ve booked a holiday at the Dionysos Hotel, then the chances are that you could be very happy just lazing around by the pool that’s nicely surrounded by the tropical garden. However, we found that the nearby Ixia beach was also great for relaxing. This is just 200 yards from the hotel and it is the perfect spot for sunbathing and swimming in the surprisingly mild Mediterranean sea.

What’s particularly good is the fact that you aren’t even too far away from the city. This means that you can take fun day trips to see historical sites like the Acropolis of Rhodes and the Temple of Apollon and then make it back to the pool to cool off. So if you are looking for a relaxing place to stay that also offer you plenty of options for exploring the best bits of Rhodes, then it’s hard to beat the appeal of the Dionysos Hotel.
